Below are HO train photos taken during the Northeastern Region (NER) of the National Model Railroad Association's (NMRA) regional convention that took place in Albany, New York in the fall of 2007. I used to be a member of the Alouette Division of the NER before I moved from Montreal to the Toronto area. My friend, Joseph Levy, and I continue to attend as many NER conventions as we can because it's also a chance to eat Maine lobster and clams and prowl the outlet malls. Many of the NER conventions are held in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Connecticut and New York state. The autumn is a wonderful season to visit this area of the country and the drive down from Montreal is spectacular with all the fall colors at their peak.
It's also a great time to play with trains.
The first group of pictures was taken around Dick Elwell's Hoosac Valley Railroad that Joseph and I were fortunate to operate along with about 20 guests during the convention. Dick has his own website for the Hoosac Valley RR.
The second group of HO train photos was taken at Lou Sassi's layout. You often see photos of other layouts in Model Railroader taken by Lou. Here are a few we took at his house. His layout is superb. I particularly remember the quality and quantity of hand-made trees and his structures.
The last group of HO train photos was taken in the convention's contest room. There was a highly-detailed diorama of a city square. I'm not sure who the builder was.
The last set of photos below was taken of Dominic Bourgeois's modules of the city of Schenectady, NY. The period is 1969. Dominic has faithfully recreated the elevated trackage near the former New York Central station. He won first place for his very impressive modeling efforts. Dominic was from the Alouette Division in Montreal.
There are several more views of his modules in the photos section of the NER website at www.nernmra.org/node/51.
More train pictures, both model and prototype, can be accessed from my Train Photos Gallery page.
